Come Heller high water … the bullies will always be bullies edition

January 20, 2019 by Andrew Heller 34 Comments

Come Heller high water …
  • Trump is, seriously, the worst dealmaker I’ve ever seen. When he says he wants a deal, he means he wants you to give him what he wants but he’s not going to give you anything you want. On the wall, his “deal” amounted to “I’ll temporarily give you some of what you want in return for permanently giving me everything I want.” That’s how a 6-year-old negotiates.
  • And let’s be honest: Even if he somehow offered a fair bargain, the Dems aren’t going to take it at this point. Would you? He’s a bully who only wants a bully’s victory. Two seconds after striking an even-Steven deal, he’d be end zone dancing. And the next day he’d want more of the same again. Give an inch, take a mile. That’s what bullies do.
  • The only way the shutdown ends is if Trump or Yertle (Mitch) figure the polls are so bad it’s in their interests – not ours – to end it. We’re getting close to the point.
  • Why is shutting down the government even legal? I don’t care what side does it, it’s stupid and wrong. The first thing I’d like to see the parties agree on is a law banning shutdowns.
  • One true thing: If you want to start a heated debate, tell people you like or hate traffic circles. They’re all over Michigan now and there’s no middle ground on them. Personally, I like them. That’s your cue to write me an angry, spit-flecked email.
  • Sith Lord John Engler resigned from MSU this week after people were ticked off by his comment that some of Larry Nassar’s victims were “enjoying” the spotlight. I’m glad for it, but why was this the breaking point for MSU? Engler’s been saying stupid, hurtful stuff since he got there. I also wonder why some people seem to have such trouble viewing the victims as victims. The attitude I detect from some is the victims should just “shake it off” or “get over it already.” This baffles me.
  • Maybe it shouldn’t. A lot of people seem to struggle with empathy. Until, God forbid, something bad happens to them or someone they love. Then suddenly they “get it.”
  • A new survey says millennials are supposedly mystified by the yellow warning light in newer cars that looks like a turkey wishbone with an exclamation point between the bones. So? So am I. The symbol I see doesn’t say “hey, dummy, one of your tires is low on air.” It says, “Make a wish.” Whoever designed that thing needs to go back to drawing school. All that’s needed is a side view of a tire with a flat at the bottom. How hard is this?
  • Here’s a fascinating insight because I’m a fascinating guy: I’ll bet you that 99.9 percent of glue/super glue is never used, ossifies in the bottle and is thrown out. There’s obviously no money in producing dollop-sized packaging for glue or glue companies would do it. But that’s how it should be packaged.
  • Didn’t I tell you: Fascinating.
  • Roku – the company that makes the little stick thing you plug into dumb TVs to make them “smart” – backed off plans to add Alex Jones’ hate-filled InfoWars show after customers revolted. I was one of them. I’d have dropped Roku in two hot seconds if they allowed that show. Voting with your wallet is the only power consumers have these days.
  • In that last blurb, I was going to use the term “pocketbook.” Then I realized I don’t really know what a pocketbook is. I’ve never owned one, as far as I know.
  • A new government report says we’re not making enough babies to replace ourselves. I suspect it’s because kids are expensive and real wages haven’t increased since the ‘70s, according to Pew Research, meaning your purchasing power today is about the same as your parents and grandparents nearly 50 years ago. Let that sink in. One of the few states where the birth rate exceeds the U.S. average is South Dakota. Because, honestly, what else is there to do in South Dakota?
  • There’s a documentary coming up about the last remaining Blockbuster store, which is in Oregon. I’d watch it but I don’t do Netflix and, well, there’s no Blockbuster near me. Duh.
  • OK, I was teasing about Netflix. I have it and love it. But I actually miss video stores. Netflix and Hulu have some movies but usually not that many. I usually want to see movies that I missed when they were in the theater but they seldom have those. Come back, Blockbuster!
  • And by the way, don’t you sometimes wonder why theaters carry such a small percentage of the movies that come out? Every Oscar season, I look at the films nominated for Best Picture and have never heard of them because theaters don’t show them. What the heck?
  • I also wish there were theaters that showed the documentaries, shorts, and animated films that win awards, too. Where do people see these things?
  • “Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.” – Max Ehrmann.

Love the Yertle comment! Fits him perfectly. Old guys I used to work with called a small Old Western paperback a pocketbook. Makes sense I guess.

I looked up “pocketbook” and the first definition was: a woman’s purse. The second definition was: a small paperback book.
My lovely Aunts always called their purses “pocketbooks”. My Aunts and their pocketbooks were elegant and sophisticated, even the purses they took to the supermarket. The pocketbooks contained a few simple things: wallet, coin purse, handkerchief, house keys, lipstick and mints.
Now most purses are called “bags”. I guess that makes sense too.

    Good riddance to bad rubbish.
In choosing the interim president, the MSU board had two possibilities, former Michigan Gov. John Engler, a Republican, and former Michigan Gov. Jim Blanchard, a Democrat. Both were alumni with long ties to the school. But the state Legislature, controlled by Republicans, made it clear to MSU, hire Engler or get ready to lose millions of dollars in state aid, and considering how the GOP views women, choosing Engler was a slam dunk (sorry, Tom).

While traffic circles are somewhat a pain in the……. , They do cut down on serious accidents and reduce traffic fatalities. Yes, I know there is a small increase in “fender benders,” but that is a lot better than killing folks.

People in West Mich. still do not understand traffic circles. The rule is simple: give way to cars on your left, and do not worry about cars on your right.

Here in GR, we still have timid drivers who do not get it. We probably would be safer if we went back to traffic lights. Have you ventured into the life-threatening traffic circle at Wealthy Street and Jefferson Avenue? Oy! Stay away!

Can you imagine if your job involved dealing with Trump on a daily basis? Having to pretend Trump makes sense? In my life, I had to deal with my mom, after she got dementia. But, mom was not the President. I could shine her along, and her preposterous ideas affected nobody else.

Trump is ready for Assisted Living, but I just read that 83% of Republicans still support Trump. That is about a quarter of American voters. Trump is wrecking the USA just because he wants respect and deference for himself. He needs the equivalent of adult diapers for his thoughts and ideas. Republicans: can you clean him up and keep him sanitary? Would that even be worthwhile? You probably have other Republican leaders. Back them instead.

Andrew, you and the rest of the Democrat/liberal/socialist posters definitely have a bad cqse of Trump derangement syndrome.
No matter what President Trump does you always find the negative side to it. Even if it is a very positive thing that he did.
Nancy Pelosi and the other Democrats who were all in favor of a border wall about 10 years ago or so, all of a sudden after President Trump started during his campaign for the Presidency said that he wanted to have one built. However, his mistake was in saying that he was going to have Mexico pay for it. Bad use of words.
Of course, he could get funds from Mexico to build the wall. All he has to do is take the $10.5 billion that the CONgress sent to Mexico to supposedly build a wall on their southern border. I am not sure if it was just Mexico that got all the funds or if some was sent to other Central America country.
When President Trump canceled the Nancy Pelosi’s trip to the mid-east just before they were to get on the buses to catch their military flight to the mid-east. Some right-leaning websites felt that President Trump should have waited to cancel their trip until they were ready to come home.
Then there was the Democrats who took to Puerto Rico during the Christmas break to party with lobbyists and other donors to their campaigns. Were there any Republicans who went on a junket like that. I do not know. If they did, it should have also been reported in the news.
Then Nancy Pelosi made the suggestion that President Trump cancel his SOTUS speech.
President Trump should not cancel the SOTUS address.

Okay Jimturd (oops I meant iii) For your information and enlightenment, I am a registered Republican. I have been for over 55 years. (I realize that is a number so large you may have trouble comprehending it.) While I have not always thought that the GOP made the right decisions–this time they really screwed up. Talking with my friends, several of them having been a part of the GOP longer than I have, well over 50% now believe tRump was a big mistake. A huuugh mistake for the long term good of the party. Rabid tRump supporters such you as claim to be are not helping our beloved party at all. So, please take your rants and your 8th grade diploma (I assume you made it that far before your folks threw you out when you turned 18) and go hide in the closet. It is obvious you are not going to look at all sides and make an informed decision.

I find it hard to believe that you are a Republican. From your insulting remarks about my early life and education, you are more socialist Democrat than a Republican.
The Democrats and socialists are the ones who resort to name calling and other dirty nasty tactics when they are confronted with issues that they cannot refute with a debate.
Am I happy with all the decisions that President Trump has made? NO.
The one thing that upsets the Democrats, socialists, liberals and RINO’s (Republican In
Name Only) is that he does not play by the rules/habits of Washington D.C.
Can President Trump drain the swamp like he promised to do? NO.
The corruption is now too deeply entrenched in Washington, D.C.

And, whether you like it or not, I have been a registered Republican for all of my voting life. Yes, I very rarely vote a straight ticket. Using the critical thinking my very excellent teachers gave me, I often find some candidate who “fills the bill” better than any of his/her opponents. It has been true in the six states in which I have lived over the years.

It makes me sad and nervous to have such a debauched human being nominating people to the Supreme Court and having people’s lives in his hands. He is an awful human being, and you shouldn’t be feeling too good about yourself right now if you voted for him. Your side claims to be patriotic. Bullshit. You can’t square “patriotic” with the crap he’s pulling.

I LOVE traffic circles! But it may be because I’ve been driving them since 1979 when I first lived in Iceland and then Germany (Federal employee . . . another discussion at this time!). They keep traffic moving rather than sitting at a stop sign and slowly moving up. The problem is Americans who do not know how to drive them! Use your left blinker to let people know you are going on around then then flick on your right blinker before the exit you want.

A different complaint about right-wingers. Supposed to be amusing: There is a big auto dealership, Sundance Chevy, located in Grand Ledge, Mich. They run TV commercials all over the state, as far as I can tell.

Old West theme. The family who own the place ride horses and wear cowboy clothes in the commercials. Hats, boots, fringy jackets, the whole darn thing. And they hoot in sort of a cowboy way. Fun, but cheesy as the dickens.

Anyway, in recent weeks, the owner, a guy named Terry Hanks, has been traipsing around in his TV commercials carrying a shotgun. He has the shotgun opened up in the commercials. It is not ready to shoot, but what the heck? It has no connection to selling cars. Terry Hanks is sort of a scary old cowpoke. I would not buy a Chevy or a gun or a cowboy boot from him.

Trump should read Heller’s “Art of the Rotball Deal. Offer three “potential stars” (I.e. three low priced rookies or mediocre players) for a star, a good player and a bum. Waive the bum. Talk like the “potential stars” will be the greatest and are future superstars at a bargain price. Finish in the money while your trade partner does not.

President Trump issued his compromise proposal at 4:05pm EST. Pelosi issued the Democrat rejection at 4:00pm. That means the Democrats did not even hear the proposal before they rejected it.

The Democrats are nothing but balls of hate. They are irrational, crazed psychopaths that refuse to even have a discussion.

What’s to hear? It’s simply this “Give me everything I want and I will give temporary protection to the Dreamers”. That is not a deal.

The House passed a Bi-Partisan bill, meaning both Republicans and Democrats supported it, to reopen the government and discuss border security afterwards. Trump won’t even consider it, because he doesn’t compromise. This is 100% on him. He is the president. It is up to HIM to find a way forward and he is failing at that miserably because he doesn’t give a shit about our country. Apparently, neither do you.

Um, you’re aware those things are leaked way ahead of time, right? Abner, I encourage you to adopt Trump’s negotiating strategy in your life. For instance, the next time you buy a car, demand an unreasonably low price then sit in the dealership lobby and hold your breath until you get your way. And make sure you tell the manager that when you win, you’re going to do an endzone dance and tell everyone how you strong-armed the dealership and everyone ought to give it a try. See how that works out for you. Or better yet, try that tactic with a spouse or buddy. Guaranteed to work!
