Steve Jessmore of Mt. Pleasant, who has been my buddy and colleague for 30 years now, is flat-out one of the best news photogs in the country. (That’s not just me saying that, btw – he’s won the Robert F. Kennedy photojournalism award for outstanding coverage of the disadvantaged and is a five-time Michigan Press Photographer Association Photographer of the Year.)
Steve turned his lens this week to the 27th annual Celebrating Life Pow Wow at Central Michigan University. The colorful celebration runs through 5 p.m. tonight at McGuirk Arena. You can view more photos here.
I’m hoping to convince Steve to post more of his outstanding work here on the website. Please lavish praise upon him in the comments section so he agrees. — andy
Best. Photographer. Ever.

Love Steve Jessmore’s photo’s! He does a great job of capturing emotions.
Great pictures! Keep this guy on your payroll, Andy!
Ha, I will, Ernie. My payroll will consist of me buying him a beer when I see him.
seems fair
The photos and costumes are beautiful! Thanks, Andy, for enriching my email. Sure would love to see more of Steve’s work. I have to go now to follow his link to see more of the pow wow.
As an RAA (Rank A**ed Amateur) photographer for over half a century I have learned to hate anyone with real talent. Thank you for giving me one more person to hate.
Beautiful pictures…up close and personal. Love the children.
Outstanding photography! He captured the event beautifully. I feel like I was there.
