Come Heller high water … and ‘the survey says’ edition

Come Heller high water …

  • I wish Democrats would just shut up about a “blue wave” for the mid-terms. There may be one but it’s far less likely to happen when they keep going on pundit shows and yapping/boasting about it. Zip the lips, people. Let things unfold. Watched pots, you know?
  • Democrats: “But the polls! They’re in our favor!” Yeah, so? They were in Hillary’s favor in 2016, too. I never believe polls and always scoff when pollsters tell me how “scientific” they are and how there’s a 4 percent margin of error. No, there’s not. With every poll, there’s a guaranteed 100 percent chance they’ll be wrong. And do you know why? Because people are people and sometimes people lie to pollsters or change their minds after talking to them. That’s why.
  • Hear ye, hear ye, after watching the first two games, I have officially revised my prediction of the Detroit Lions’ record this season from 5-11 to 0-17. You’re thinking, “Shows what you know – they only play 16 games so they can’t possibly lose 17, dummy.” That’s true, but I think the Lions will be so incredibly bad the league will award them an extra loss so it’s clear for the record books that they were the worst of all time. (Of course, I’m a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan so I might be a tad biased. But honestly, how many decades are you people going to put up with this? There’s loyalty then there’s masochism.)
  • Stafford throws deep routes like he’s near-sighted.
  • Trump said this week, “This is a tough hurricane, one of the wettest we’ve ever seen from the standpoint of water.” It was also one the windiest we’ve ever seen from a stuff blowing around standpoint. And one of the most destructive from the standpoint of stuff breaking. Sometimes it’s almost like he’s trying to get mentioned on “Saturday Night Live,” you know?
  • A new study says that by 2019 nearly half of all cellphone calls will be scams. Fortunately, no one ever answers their cell phone, so no big deal. The only time I answer is when the person calling is in my contact list and the screen shows me their name. Otherwise, I figure it’s my former lawn care company calling again (the invention of Constant Contact was a terrible, terrible thing) or whoever’s calling will leave a message if it’s important, which it never is.
  • I’m not sure if you’re aware, but I often use my little column to air petty complaints about people and society. (You: “No kidding, Sherlock.”) So here’s today’s beef: Why, of all commercials, are car and truck commercials so incredibly bad, dumb and irritating? And all the same? Every pickup truck and SUV commercial I see, for instance, shows manly men at construction sites, driving up mountains or crossing streams. Streams? Why? Most pickups and SUVs I see are driven by businessmen and women. The dirtiest they get is when they hit a puddle. And why are pickups so damned big these days? They don’t fit in parking spots. How do people get them in a garage?
  • Also, why do they play rock music under sports highlights while they’re also talking about them? I can’t hear what you’re saying, announcer person! Then I have to turn it up, prompting the lovely yet formidable Marcia to tell me to turn it down.
  • “Our greatest glory is not in never failing but in rising every time we fall.” – Confucius.

On the phony/criminal cell phone calls topic: What happened to good old Caller ID? I believe I would like to have my name show up, whenever I call somebody, even if I am not on somebody’s contact list. We used to have that feature. Why did it go away?

Andrew, you did not mention the Dr. Ford versus Bret Kavanaugh issue, but it is the biggest current controversy.

One way to look at it: This teen-age guy wanted to kiss and make out with this teen-age girl. He tried. She did not like it. She left, and nothing bad happened to her.

Another interpretation: He tried to rape her, but she got away.

Here is her actual accusation letter. What should we think?

I think (like most) that she deserves respect and to be heard. There’s no worry except in the minds of the GOP. I haven’t seen anything that would tell me she’s lying or a dem operative. Here’s an idea: if the GOP were to stop nominating sexist jerks (thomas and now kavanaugh) they might not get roughed up in hearings. Poor snowflakes.

A big part of the GOP platform is denying equality and respect to women. They are the outdated “good o’ boys” club that views females as a servant class, not as equals. Which is why they think it is their job to make decisions on a woman’s well-being. Look at any Republican’s wife, they are very submissive and obedient women. So knowing that, nobody should be surprised when they nominate what they are.

Note: When I say submissive Republican wives, I am not talking about those angry foul mouth women who come out for Trump. Those women are not Republicans.

The issue with Kavanaugh isn’t just that he may had committed this offense while in high school. The issue is also that he may be lying to the American people about it. Some might argue that a 40 year old incident has no merit in these proceedings, but if he is lying about it today, I don’t see anyway around that for a nominee to the highest court in the land. This issue needs to be fully examined.

Snowflakes are not Republicans. They are democrats/socialists/liberals. Snowflakes cannot stand opposing ideas.
Having said that Andrew is misrepresenting the Republican members of the committee.
The Republicans have said that Ford can testify under the following conditions: They would send Senate aides from both parties to listen to her testimony, phone conference, and a couple of other conditions. Ford’s democrat attorney rejected those terms.
Then Ford’s attorney then wanted Bret Kavanaugh to testify first then Ford would testify afterward. That goes against both criminal and civil law. The plaintiff/prosecutor brings forth before the Judge their case first and then the defense is allowed to bring forth their side of the story.
Now I just heard that Ford is going to testify on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in an open session of the committee meeting. We shall see.

“It was not supposed to go this far. Senate Republicans were supposed to buckle. President Trump was supposed to get wobbly. Kavanaugh was supposed to have dropped out by now.
Senate Democrats had/have no contingency plan for a scenario in which people demanded
    evidence.” Sean Davis

“Ford’s demand is, put it simply, out of line. There is no precedent for a quid pro quo demand for testimony by a witness. Ford does not have the right to set conditions before testifying under oath.”
Georgetown law professor (and Democrat) Jonathan Turley

“I believe Ford has to show up Monday. If she does not show up on Monday, she has violated (Kavanaugh’s) core right to confront his accuser. If he shows up, what is he going to respond to? News reports? She has to go under oath.”
Harvard law professor (and Democrat) Alan Dershowitz

Senator Feinstein had this information sometime in July. Why did she not immediately turn it over to the committee instead of waiting until a few days before the vote to bring this “information” before the committee?
Ford had first contacted Rep Aschoo (D, CA) about the alleged event even earlier. It was mentioned in earlier accounts that Rep Aschoo that Ford stated that Aschoo had helped draft the letter to Feinstein.
If it was not for double standards the Democrat would not have any standards. The hypocrisy of the Democrats has no end.
Keith Ellison (D) someone in the Democrat party, Number 2 in the chain, I do believe, has had his former girlfriend trying to bring her story to the media. She has documented Medical reports and some police reports along with other evidence and the Democrats ignore her.
The only evidence that Democrats want is evidence that smears a Republican. If a Democrat woman claims that a Republican man supposedly did something wrong, we are supposed to take it as the gospel truth.
If a female (party affiliation not needed) accuses a Democrat of misconduct, she is smeared, ignored, and otherwise dismissed by the Democrats as being a liar and so forth.
Brett Kavanaugh has a letter signed by over 60 women vouching for his character that he had never acted inappropriately with them. If there was of a history of such activity there should be a few more women coming forward.
