Should he stay or should he go?

May 17, 2016 by Andrew Heller 15 Comments

20214816885_0de74c0d8c_kDetroit Tigers manager has been on the proverbial “hot seat” for weeks now, despite the fact no one remembers why a “hot seat” came to be synonymous with “at risk of being fired” in the first place.

But you get the gist. Should the Bradman, in the words of the immortal Clash song, stay or should he go? You tell me in this week’s Heller Poll (it’s easy – just click on the answer of your choosing):

Something ain’t right. Time for a change before it’s too late, not that those bloated contracts help. Happy belated birthday, Mr. Heller!

      Doug,
VMart says the problem is not Ausmus. I believe anyone batting 365.

Stay. I am sure neither Gibby nor Leyland would take the job, and I cannot think of anybody else who might make a difference.

Replying to my own post: Is the proverbial Hot Seat maybe a reference to the Electric Chair?

My first thought would be wearing short shorts in the ’70s and sitting on a sun baked vinyl seat when most cars didn’t have AC. Hot Seat is a fair metaphor for an uncomfortable position.

I don’t think this season is Ausmus’s fault. Seems like the players are responsible for their own failures.

I totally agree! I don’t think it’s the manager’s fault when the players’ aren’t hitting. But, Brad needs to give all of the players (pitchers included) a good talking to, a good pep talk, if he hasn’t already! It looks like their hearts aren’t in the game this season. They need to remember why they wanted to play baseball in the first place (besides making millions of dollars). They need to start having fun again, because after all, it still is just a game!

Time to go. Same as last year. The players say that ausmus isn’t the fault but sorry what does the manager do? He just sets and watches he team play like little leaguers. They need a Scotty Bowman!!!!

I sometimes second guess Brad’s moves, but who doesn’t. I think the problem is with the hitting coach. The good hitters are staying in slumps for too long, costing the team runs & games. Also he’s not preaching small ball when the team is not crushing home runs. Moving the runners up & bringing them home from 3rd base, less than 2 outs, seems to be a lost art with the Tigers.

Definitely stay. He did not hire the bullpen staff. How many blown games by the relievers? Wasn’t his choice to deal away Scherzer, Price, and Fister. Where are the players we got as part of those deals? When the temperature warms above 70, the bats will warm up, too.

Funny how, when they were playing Baltimore, they gave complete credit for the O’s success to Showalter, but don’t want to blame Ausmus for the Tiger’s failures. REALLY? They were doing better before Ausmus arrived. You can’t play that card both ways.

Too bad Brad never attended “smile school”….he is a good manager with a few faults as we all have…not great….but then again, as most players have said….our down spiral is up to us the players…not the manager….
