Come Heller high water … the ‘He called them what?’ edition

Come Heller high water …

  • Shitholes? He called Haiti, El Salvador and assorted African nations “shitholes”? And you thought he couldn’t sink any lower. Wow. Just wow. It’s like he’s trying to prove Michael Wolff’s point in the book that he’s mentally and temperamentally unfit. Imagine the Statue of Liberty poem if this guy had his way: “Give me your rich, your MBAs, your tech-savvy millennials, yearning to breathe free. But keep your wretched refuse from shithole countries like Haiti and Nambia away from our teeming shore, wouldja?”
  •  If you didn’t catch the tongue in cheek reference to Nambia, that’s the African nation Trump created. I’m assuming it’s a shithole.
  • The racism and hatred in his comment is so appalling. I’m ashamed of him and I’m ashamed we let him stay in office. Honestly, what’s it going to take before we dump him? He’s going to have to shoot someone on 5th Avenue, isn’t he? Just like he said.
  •  But wait! There’s more! Today he also published Jekyll and Hyde tweets first opposing then supporting the FISA surveillance program, which helps us combat terror. Even Republicans were horrified about that. Trump clearly doesn’t know what the program is or does, which is shocking for a president. But somehow he’s darned sure it was used against him, which it wasn’t. Not that that’s unusual. He thinks everything is about him and against him. And he clearly thinks all of our laws should be rewritten to suit or favor him.
  • Even libel laws. He said, with a straight face, “We are going to take a strong look at our country’s libel laws, so that when somebody says something that is false and defamatory about someone, that person will have meaningful recourse in our courts.” I wonder if Crooked Hillary, Little Marco, Low Energy Jeb and Sloppy Steve are tempted to back him on this?
  • I mean, seriously, if his standard of libel or slander is saying something mean about someone, he’s going to spend the rest of his next five lives in jail.
  • Enough Trump. I’m starting to get too seriously worried to do a whole column on him, so, hey, look, over there, the British royal family! What is it with some people and the British royal family? Some kid of one of them started preschool or something this week and they couldn’t get enough: “Look! How cute!” Cute, sure, but the kid’s just going to nursery school to finger paint and pull hair. So why does anybody care?
  • Another thing I don’t get is why the Golden Globes audience cheered for Tonya Harding. Wasn’t Nancy Kerrigan the one who got attacked? Nothing makes sense anymore.
  • I got my first “baseball’s coming” tingle of excitement the other day. The Detroit Tigers reporting to training camp, which happens a little over a month from now, is always the unofficial sign of spring for me. But it faded quickly when I remembered the Tigers are going to be beyond awful this year. And next year. And the year after. And the year after that. That’s not pessimism, just the reality of small market baseball. Plus, I have zero faith in Al Avila. Here’s the most recent example of why. This blurb is from blessyouboys.com:  “Detroit has signed left-handed pitcher James Russell to a minor league contract. The 32-year-old Russell last appeared in the major leagues in 2016 (making) seven appearances with the Phils that season, allowing nine runs on nine hits in 4 1⁄3 innings. He hasn’t performed all that well at the major league level, but is left-handed and almost throws 90 miles per hour.” Whoo! Exciting!
  • The NFL needs to drop its rules about what’s a catch and what’s not. Why? I’ll try not to be too technical here but … they’re stupid. A catch is a catch. Not a catch is not a catch. You can tell which is which from the replay. Easy-peasy. The NFL over-thought this one.
  • Sure, Oprah could be president. Why not? She’s smart, tough and compassionate, which in my mind are three of the top traits needed in that job. Besides, she was on TV, and that’s the top quality most voters look for these days, right?
  • And sure, I make New Year’s resolutions. This year I resolved to not make any resolutions until such time as I develop grit and/or willpower.
  • “Summer is a promissory note signed in June, its long days spent and gone before you know it, and due to be repaid next January.” – Hal Borland.

It is shocking for a president to not know that, hardly surprising for Trump to not know that. He isn’t a president. He’s just he guy stinking up the oval office. America is rudderless at the moment.

Did anyone notice it was 57 degrees outside today? Maybe that is what gave you the tingles of spring? Wasn’t it just a little above freezing the other day? Where the heck did the frozen snowbanks I made last week go?

This just in: Trump calls off planned trip to the United Kingdom to open new U.S. Embassy due to fears of mass protests.
Wow! Talk about weak in regards to Trump. Talk about sad in regards to the rest of us. The President of the United States can’t even visit our number one ally because there will be mass protests, the kind that used to be reserved for visiting dictators who are guilty of human rights violations. Or maybe they still are?

Now to be fair, Dotard Donnie says he’s not going to England because of the bad real estate deal that sold the old embassy and built a new one, which he claimed President Obama did, of course that’s false, the deal was done at the end of President Bush’s term.

And it’s actually a good deal that came at no expense to the tax payers. It was fully funded by selling off other U.S. owned property in England.
We didn’t own the land the old embassy is on, some Duke did. That embassy was increasingly hard to secure as it was in a busy business district. The new embassy is so much more secure. Doesn’t Trump care about that?

Is this the last straw yet? Please, can it be?!?! Can the Republicans in Congress finally figure out what the Democrats already know? I understand that they’re concerned for their political lives, but when is enough, enough? Honestly, I would respect the Republicans more if they would just find their backbones and stand up to this buffoon. I am ordinarily an optimistic person, but I totally agree with Fred, we are completely rudderless right now and I’m very concerned.

Its mortifying that previous straws were not enough. How do those that aren’t speaking up sleep at night- esp. as 45 sinks lower, dragging the reputation of our country further down? Some Rep. has to have a backbone, or a conscience. ‘Loss of human decency’ for sure.

President Trump’s remarks about those countries was a very bad choice of words. True those countries not the nicest places to live. We have sent millions upon millions to these countries and they are still not places I would want to visit. Of course most of the money was siphoned off by the corrupt leaders of those countries and stuck in a Swiss bank account. Those were not the only countries that we sent money to that was diverted from the people to the leaders of those nations.
I see that Fiat-Chrysler is moving a truck line from Mexico to Michigan now that the tax cuts have been enacted. Plus they are giving their workers a bonus also. I am the liberal media will try to spin something negative about that news.
President Trump is starting to act more like a democrat than a republican.m He was a democrat for years before he changed to the republican party.

Spend a minute, look up the business report of your choice, and read Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne’s quote as to why this bonus( and return of a truck line from Mexico) occurred. Spoiler alert; something to do with a new tax plan and according to you Trump had nothing to do with that bit of legislation! LIAR, LIAR, pants on fire.

Interestingly, there was video of the Bipartisan meeting when he agreed to work with the Democrats on immigration, DACA, and funding for the wall, but no video of the meeting that he said Democrats were unreasonable, even though it was a 4 month bipartisan committee solution, and he disagrees with witnesses who quoted his comments (and 2 say they do not recall). So, no one at that meeting has stated that he did not say this except him.

At the meeting: Senator Lindsey Graham (R), who said he called Trump out over his comments, Senator Richard Durbin (D), Senator David Perdue (R), Senator Tom Cotton (R), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R), Rep. Robert Goodlatte (R) Rep. Mario Diaz-Balert (R). Perdue and Cotton made a joint comment that “they do not recall those comments specifically”. Graham told other senators that the comments “were basically accurate”. None of the others have denied. Paul Ryan has already addressed “these unfortunate comments” in public. On a side note, this was to have been a private meeting with Graham and Durbin, discussing the bi-partisan committee suggestions, while the others who were there are strong on tightening immigration restrictions. There was no video or recording of the meeting, but you knew that already, didn’t you?

Do you really think that arguing with everyone on this post is going to make your version of the situation the only right one? 7 people attended, 1 went public, 1 said publicly that he addressed Trump directly several times about the language and told other senators that Durbin’s statement was “basically accurate”, 2 stated publicly that “they do not recall those comments specifically” (but no direct denial), and 3 have not denied even after the public outcry. Paul Ryan obviously believes it because he has called the comments “unfortunate” and publicly apologized for them. Even if you don’t like Durbin, how do you work your way around the fact that no one else has denied?

Is it very possible that President Trump used such language. Yes. Are the liberals getting their panties in a bunch over it. Yes. The only ones that really should get upset over his use of such language are the ones that have never used such. language. It would be a very small group of people.
I am sure that a whole lot of democrats and republicans have CONgress criters, liberal reporters and basically just about every American has used language like that in order to describe someone else.
President Trump most definitely could have used a better choice of words.

Context, context, context. Immigration to the United States has been about people leaving their country in order to protect themselves and their families. To deny entry because of the conditions they are trying to leave is inhuman. My ancestors came to avoid famine, political persecution and religious persecution. They would have died or been killed if they were not allowed to immigrate. This is not about the word, this is about the context of the word. Are you really saying that only liberals are upset about this word being used to avoid allowing immigrants from several countries and an entire continent? You really think that humanitarians from this country and others are not upset over his use of such language?

You have the nerve to imply that only your ancestors left their homeland to escape the corrupt leaders of their native land.
I have ancestors that left Ireland to escape the potato famine and the repressive English government. I also have ancestors who left Poland because they had Jewish blood. Some of my ancestors either stayed true to their Hebrew roots, buried under the Star of David or they became Catholics. Both the Germans and the Russians persecuted those of the Hebrew faith.
My ancestors came here legally and merged into the American culture. A lot of these new immigrants do not want to assimilate. Some of them want us to bend our culture to fit their culture.
No I am not saying that liberals are the only one that are upset about the supposed utterance by DJT.
What I am getting used to is the fact that liberals change and bend words to fit their view of the world

Well, that was a giant leap, wasn’t it? You commented about the language and only the liberals were getting their panties in a bunch over it, and I said it wasn’t the language but the context. I then tried to explain why people emigrate from troubled countries, and you attack me for assuming that only my ancestors left their countries to escape hardship and persecution. I never said anything about legal vs illegal immigration, the discussion was about allowing any immigration from certain countries and one entire continent. And nice generalization about liberals changing and bending words to fit their view of the world. (Especially after you changed and bent my words.)

Please note that coming to the USA “legally,” back in the old days just involved stepping over the border or walking down the gangplank. Most of our “legal” ancestors, back in the day, would be illegal as heck now, under current law. Even the Norwegians.

    Dick Durban is a liar.

“More and more witnesses”, as in the two that: Day 1 did not refute, Day 2 issued a joint statement that said they did not remember those specific words, and now Day 4 have decided that they do remember specifically that those words were not said and Durbin is a liar because he has a history of lying about meetings in the White House. His “history” is repeating a statement issued by the White House, that was later retracted, at which time he retracted his also. And by calling Dick Durbin a liar they are also calling Lindsey Graham a liar.

That might be why their memory on these comments suddenly and conveniently returned, after they both said they “don’t recall”. What do you think Working Dad?

Mine came from, not in any particular order: Poland, Germany, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, France and Great Britain. There is slight chance that there are other countries involved in the mix, it can be hard to trace all the movements of ones ancestors.

The reason is simple. He has been backed into a corner and he is trying to claw and scrap his way out of it, like a wild animal. He has lost and he has no defense for Trump anymore. On some level he knows this, but it will be awhile longer before he is ready to admit it and either disappear, or never mention Trump again.

It is not just happening here, the pressure is in his home too. He usually doesn’t acknowledge my comments about him, because it’s too close to the truth and that scares him. I have to admit I feel sorry for him, but he did this to himself, and he will have to deal with the consequences.

The more I read about the alleged words that claim President Trump used to describe a few countries.
It seems that the source is dick durban a democratic sentator that will go to any length to smeaf President Trump.
It was a closed door meeting, where possible deals would be discussed and generally not shared with the public. Happens often in Washington. Both parties have had meetings like this for years.
Only it seems that durban did not like the fact that President did not roll over and play nic with durban who was acting in behalf of the other democrats in CONgress.
So durban did what a democrat can do. Spoke some words that he knew that the liberal media would jump all over and repeat the lie.
No matter what President Trump does the liberals will find a way to put a negative spin on the story.
I am of the opinion all those liberals who want these people form the corrupt countries to come to America, have those people move into the same neighborhood that they live in. Let the liberals have them for next door neighbors. Remove the gates from the neighborhoods that pellosie, feinstien, durban and other liberal CONgress persons live in.

Sorry, but Lindsey Graham is standing his ground that it happened. These two have gone from not refuting, to “do not recall those specific words” to “never happened”. Great credibility. Remember, there was a recorded Bipartisan meeting earlier where the President said he was willing to listen to anything that was offered. The morning of this meeting, he said he was willing to work with the Democrats. THIS meeting was supposed to be a private meeting with Durbin and Graham, to discuss the Bipartisan Committee’s proposals. When they arrived, they were surprised to find the others, who are hard-line anti-immigration. Now we hear “Deal can’t be made when there is no trust”. Apparently our government now wants us to allow only immigrants who are highly educated and come from countries who are better than we are. Which means that we are refusing to be humanitarian, to allow refugees from countries that are war-torn, or have national disasters. In which case, none of my ancestors, and possible yours, would ever have been allowed entry. No one is saying let everyone in who applies, there are quotas, and limitations from dangerous countries, but to refuse people from countries that are suffering hardships, or because they are trying to escape a corrupt government is cruel. BTW, you also seem to have a personal opinion of what happened in a private meeting and have made up your mind about who is not telling the truth.

you and your liberal posters on this site are so blinded by hatred that it is impossible for you to see things. from your blind ideological following of obamma, ignoring the things that he did that were not constitutional. The courts overturned a lot of obama’s executive orders that ruled his EO’s were unconstitutional, by the way some of those courts are staffed by liberal judges. Then again no matter how much truth is brought you will deny it.
A reporter is supposed to be unbiased. You are very biased. Along with a lot of reporters in both print media and tv media.
Before you try whining that I am supposedly blinded by my views, only in your closed mind will that idea have any traction.
The only thing that liberals can do is smear any one that disagrees with them. These type of attacks come right out of saul alinsky’s book “rules for radicals”.
A book that hilliary and obama both read and used as their bible to attack conservatives.
It is lenin along with goebels that stated that a lie repeated enough will eventually be believed as true. lenin and goebels are classified as liberal/socialist/communist haters of freedom. They only wanted to be in power and rule over men and women unjustly.
No true conservative would use such a thing. No lindsey graham is not a reliable source.
He has no trouble sticking a knife in President Trump’s back while acting like he is good buddies with the president. lindsey graham has voted more often for democrat/liberal policies than he has republican. lindsey graham is part of the swamp that needs to be drained.
How do I tell when a liberal like you is also racist? When someone like you also claims to
be non-racist, I have found over the past 45 years or so they actually have deep racial feelings.
My grandfather and I were talking about 30 years ago about politics. My grandfather was a staunch democrat his whole life. He died at the age of 96. He told me he did not like the way the democrats were turning into. He said that it was not the same party as they were at the time of JFK. They were turning more anti-American. He opined that if I lived to be near his age the democrats might try and maybe succeed in trurning America into a dictatorship. From what I am seeing, it could happen. If it happens andy (that is if you read this far) you will find yourself, along with, fred tom says, linda and other liberal writers in this column in an American gulag. wopndering haow you got there because you supported the cause.

Your worried about a dictatorship, well buddy your close to it now with trump in office. That is what he is striving for. Oh by the way Jim lll, my ancestors were from Poland. They left that country around 1912 because of poor living conditions. According to trumps statements, they would not be welcome. Even though they worked like dogs and were taken advantage of by the elite, they made this country what it is, along with many other immigrants. I also remember my grandparents and parents being looked down on by those that thought they were the only ones that deserved to live in this country. Shame on you, because you would have been one of them.

Yeah lindsey graham needs to switch parties. He needs to become a democrat because that is who he panders to. It is not by chance that the democrat party symbol is an ass.
If you had the capacity to comprehend what I wrote, you would understand that I stated that my grandfather said that the DEMOCRAT PARTY would be the ones that would cause the country to turn into a dictatorship. The only time that democrats like the Constitution is when they can turn it to their advantage. Even then they strive to change the meaning of what the founding fathers wrote. They remove words or add words as the need comes along.

Dear Jim, you invited yourself to a liberal blog, and spew vitriol and hatred. Maybe we could take you seriously if you tried to politely and respectfully explain your views, or educate us to what you feel is the truth. But I am still trying to understand how you feel that the party not in power is turning this country into a dictatorship, but not the person in the White House who was elected to be CEO not President (“We need a businessman, not a politician!”), who does not know the constitution, and wants to eliminate our system of checks and balances, and wants to eliminate free speech and freedom of the press. You want someone who is “not politically correct”, we want someone who does not insult our allies and other countries. Diplomacy comes from the word Diplomat, and I’m not seeing much of that. Myself, I have always voted the candidate, not the party, but since this election your Republican Party, who have refused Bi-Partisan conversation and gone from closed-door committees to rushing bills through in the middle of the night, have turned me staunchly, loudly Democrat. I am very frightened at the direction that this country is now headed.

I think you need to look up what a dictatorship is, then compare it to trumps actions. Comprehend that and really study his actions. Graham at least isn’t a butt kisser like the rest of the loyal trumpsters. The DHS doesn’t know that Norway is mostly white. Butt kisser or dumb as a rock.
