Tomorrow is National Burger Day – how do you like yours?

May 27, 2016 by Andrew Heller 27 Comments

454064779_7aee2bc9ba_bTomorrow is National Burger Day. How do you like yours? (Answer in the comment section, please.)

Me? I love olive burgers. With cheese, lettuce, onion – no tomato – plus ketchup and mustard. Maybe bacon.

I am horrified by “fancy” burgers of any kind. You are not invited to my BBQ if you’re going to insist on lamb burgers or feta burgers or burgers with infused marmalade mayonnaise.

Just saying.

And yes I realize the above photo is not an olive burger. Don’t be a wise ass.

I find the humble hamburger to be my favorite cut of beef and I like mine with mayonnaise, mustard, onion, pickle. No more. No less. And it helps if it is accompanied by an icy cold beer.

Rare! … so the juice drips down your chin but misses your shirt.

Nice thick juicy burger topped with cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce and onion. Of course add the Miracle Whip, mustard and ketchup also.

We could also mention the places where to get this cooked to perfection – for me it’s Five Guys or, when I’m in Vegas or the West Coast, it’s In and Out Burger. Mandatory stop at least twice when I’m there…

Oh. Miracle Whip. Love Miracle Whip. Don’t like mayo. Good call, Bill.

Cooked medium with mayo, lettuce, tomato and a pickle spear on the side for my partner.
These days, Jim Walworth, nothing misses the shirt. If it isn’t the juice from the burger, it is the mayo or the juice from the tomato.

The good old Onion Burger, with a packet of Lipton’s Onion Soup mixed in the meat is one of my favorites. Might have to try one this weekend.

I had a dream once, seriously, about a burger I needed to make. So I did. The ground meat included turkey cuz it’s native to this side of the globe. I cut the burger in half so it’s taco shell shaped. Yep, warmed up a homemade soft corn tortilla and threw on my favorite taco toppings. Whatever ingredients you use, I think it’s the change up to a tortilla shell from those sponge muffins burgers usually get served on that make this a comfort food.

My favorite is a Halo Burger deluxe w/olives – the original one! Otherwise, I’m happy with just mustard & dill pickles.

I love the burgers at Blackstone Pup in Holly. They make one with blue cheese, frizzled onions and white cheddar. Anything with bacon on it is good too.

If I don’t make it at home, definetly a Halo half pound supreme deluxe. Heavy mayo tomato and lettuce. Miracle whip is for wusses.

At home: Plain rare-ish on a good bun, maybe with grilled onions. Salt, maybe pepper, nothing more. Want to taste the good meat. Juicy, with a nice crustiness.

Out-to-eat: A two or three-patty Blimpy burger with provolone, grilled onions, bacon, pepper rings, and black olives, on a dark bun, at Krazy Jim’s in Ann Arbor.

I do not understand America’s addiction to ketshup, catsup, call it what you will.

Damn Andy, olive, cheese, lettuce, onion – no tomato – plus ketchup and mustard. Maybe bacon. is almost spot on. I prefer olives but wife likes mushrooms so I haven’t had an olive burger in while. I’m game for a good mushroom swiss cheese burger but I like olives better than mushrooms.
