It’s Auchtoon time: We live in a ‘for’ or ‘against’ nation

September 4, 2017 by Andrew Heller 22 Comments

Toon & text by John Auchter

Today is Labor Day, which of course begs the question: What side is it on? Is it exclusive to union workers or to entrepreneurs? Does it celebrate individual laborers in their quest to provide for their families or groups that grow prosperity by developing their trade? Is it more of a man thing or a woman thing? Is God for it or against it? And where does it stand on nuclear proliferation? Public breastfeeding? The designated hitter rule?…

An exaggeration? Well, maybe a little. But this “sides” thing is how we are now conditioned to think — every issue seemingly must align with either one side or the other. Every issue is binary: strictly for or against. And they all have to fit within the structure of a declared political party. Sheesh! Has it always been this bad? I don’t think so, but then maybe out of desperation I’m remembering good ol’ days that never were.

We could use a break. Michigan has a particularly rich labor history. We should celebrate it by enjoying a day off from having to line up every issue we encounter with some political goal or aspiration. Happy Labor Day!

John Auchter draws cartoons. Lots and lots of them. You can find them at his incredibly popular website auchtoon.com. You can also find his stuff on Michigan Public Radio’s website under Opinion.

Sadly I need to agree with you. We are such a divided society now and the gap seems to widen each week.

The political left tries to constantly force their agenda down our throats. That is the absolute source of our divided American society. If anybody dared to object in any way to the radical leftist agenda, they are labeled as racist, bigot, homophobe, over privileged, NAZI, etc.

If the lying, liberal left would give up their radical agenda of hate for 6 months, this country would absolutely no longer be divided.

It will not happen. The Democrat party will not allow unity.

Change a few key words in your post and it rings true for the Republican Party as well. Both are to blame for this divided Nation. No more party alignment, just elected lawmakers working together for the good of our state and country.

You are labeled a racist, bigot, homophobe, over privileged, NAZI, etc. because you support politicians and policies that enable racists, bigots, homophobes the privileged and NAZIS. I am happy to clear that up for you. You are welcome.

I think that Labor Day is for the workers on the assembly line, teachers, plumbers, electricians, people who keep the city looking fine, farmers, grocery workers….You get the picture. Many work for an hourly wage, some have great benefits, some don’t. Some Unions are helpful, some are not. There is thanks due to those who create the places and manner of work, who come up with the plans, etc.
I am grateful that we can celebrate all that in the USA, also the country where you can be what you want to be and do what you want to do.
The only thing political sides need to do is to keep their promises of bringing jobs back to America. That promise has not been fulfilled. How many clothes, toys, gadgets, appliances, etc., say ” proudly made in the USA?”

Or at least some of them.

The only people keeping all products from being made in American, are the American consumers. We don’t like paying high prices and we are always looking for a bargain. American workers will not work that cheap, so prices would go up and consumer won’t be able to afford them as often.
Almost nothing is completely American made. Even American based manufacturers are getting some, if not all of their parts from China or other countries. So to those red blooded “real” Americans who refuse to buy anything that is not stamped “Made in America”, you are fooling yourselves.

John Auchter is definitely a liberal. Kathy also sounds like a liberal, but I slightly agree that the national republican party does not have clean hands either. The liberals, socialists, sjw’s anti-fa’s and blm do want unity. If you do not follow their agenda, than as Working Dad stated you are given a lot of nasty labels.
I have been looking at some other posts.
One of them was captioned: “Relief supplies donated by antifa and black lives matter en route to Texas.” It then shows the empty inside of a large cargo plane. I will opine that you could add the elites like obamma, slick willie, hilliary, john kerry, nancy pelosi, maxine waters, joe biden and a long list of liberals that say they are for the downtrodden and other poor folks.
The second one was created by someone that awarded a participation ribbon to the looney left
sjw’s and blm : You are awarded this special snowflake ribbon 2nd class with crossed diaper pins for demostrating an unusual degree of buttheadness and extraordinary skill or resourcefullness at playing the victim.

As I read the comment by Working Dad, the thought that comes to mind is “if the shoe fits, wear it!” If you are racist, bigot, homophobe, over privileged, nazi, white supremacist, then that’s what you are. It doesn’t make you a republican any more than it makes me a radical leftist liberal because I believe people have the right to marry whomever they love, women have the right to control their own bodies, we deserve equal pay for equal work, and the church needs to stay out of politics and serve God by serving the less fortunate. I for one am tired of name calling and nasty labels. However, anyone who is a student of history understands name calling is written in the DNA of human political history, even in the “sacred” forefathers of the United States. Study Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Jackson and you will discover nothing has changed over 235 years! We may disagree on issues but it doesn’t make either of us less patriotic or hell bound because of it.

I see that tom says is up to his usual troll name calling tactic. Tom sayscannot form a coherent rebuttal to someone’s opinion that does not conform to Tom says views. Working Dad is not a nazi, nor does he believe in white supremeist views. Tom says beliefs are more in line with the views of naziism than Working Dad. Tom says implies in his writing that he is a democrat and believes in socialism. Well socialism is part of the nazi creed. It is not part of the republican creed. Those neo-nazi that make the false claim that they are republicans are in line with mainstream democrat views. Views that are of robert byrd of WV, who was a some kind of grand klegel of the kkk. There were a lot of democrats that were members of the kkk. JFK wrote an article/critique of adolf hitler in 1938 that praised hilter and his movement. Tom says will just deny things and keep up his name calling, because that is all he is capable of doing.

Yeah socialism is part of the Nazi creed, that is why Hitler rounded up and killed all the socialists in Germany, because he considered them a threat to his regime. You are delusional beyond words.

But by 1945, Kennedy was clearly put off by the defeated Germans and their total acceptance of authority. “It shows just how easy it would be to seize power in Germany,” Kennedy wrote at that time. Is that Kennedy’s prescience reaching across the generations? Has Soma arrived (in the guise of a certain politician)?

to native of Michigan, It took Kennedy until 1945 to come to that decision and only after the nazi’s were defeated. I am not familiar with soma. What or who is soma? Is it known by another name? If so what would it be.
To fred, yes did round up all the socialists that did not meet his standards. The ones hitler rounded up were ones that realized that he was not going to the messiah that they were looking for. They opposed some of the policies that hitler put in place. Those socialists that followed hitler and supported his policies were not rounded up and disposed of. Who were the socialists that hitler rounded up? They were today’s version of lgbt and whatever groups that aligns those views.

That is historically incorrect. You are just reciting alt. right propaganda (did you know they are racist, like you?), but you can keep believing your delusions. I don’t care.
You are saying the socialists Hitler did round up are what would be the LGBT movement and whatever group aligns those views. I thought those are the groups you don’t like. So i guess you are on Hitler’s side there. Thank you for confirming what we already know. Nazi.

Fred, I have said it before and I will repeat it, you are a liberal troll. You can also be labeled a low information voter. I associate with someone who votes strictly democrat. Why does that person vote democrat? that person told me that their parents voted straight democrat so they vote straight democrat. Never looks at issues or where the candidate stands on the current issues. You are in the same league as that person. When somebody asks me about some of the people that I have met over the years, I rarely mention what their skin color is. I have stories that encompasses all the major races on the planet. I have never visited the alt.right web sites. I am not a nazi, Some of the relatives that stayed in the old country when my great-great grandparents came to America did not survive hitler’s death camps. I have walked through the Bergan-Belsan (sp) camp ,in then West Germany, when I was in the army. It made an impression on me what socialists, communists can and will do to a group that they do not like. Some of my relatives who fought in WWII in Europe would be very upset with you. One of them ended up with a Silver Star along with a few other medals in action in Europe.
Fred, you probably have never served in the military. You cannot respond to comments with out making nasty comments about somebody who do not accept your words.

It sounds like you think you got me all figured out. Sorry to tell you, but you got me wrong on every one of those counts.

The things you are say are just stupid. You don’t have the faintest idea of what you are talking about.

Democrat doesn’t mean Socialist Communist, that is something Alt. Right media outlets have been pushing, and you might not know it, but that is where you get your nonsense, because you are copying them practically word for word.

The full name of NAZI was Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party. So you just take the socialist part of it and apply it to the Democrat Socialists and you think you got something there. So with that logic, I will take the Nationalist part and apply it to the White Nationalist Nazi movement that is so emboldened by your party in recent recent years and what do you know…. you are a Nazi! You lose.

Yes, Native of Michigan, Aldous Huxley stated a very true fact. Those who do not study history and those who study history fail to comprehend the lessons will invariably repeat those mistakes.
Fred, Tom and Jim says think that there brand of socialism will work because they think that they are smarter that everybody else. What they fail to realize they are nothing more than useful idiots. Useful idiots as lenin described a lot of his followers before and after the Russian revolution. They are the same type as the brownshirts that hitler used to gain power. Once hitler gained power he disposed of the brownshirts because he knew that they would a very big resistance to him gaining power. The same applies to the blm antifa crowd. Once whoever survives the power grab that is coming to America will try their best to get rid of all opposition. It will not matter if you are on the left or the right, if you do not meet their standards, you will be eliminated.
Bill Ayres in an interview in late 1970’s or 1990’s that if his underground group had managed to gain power in the 1960’s at 25,000,000 people would have been eliminated, because they would not have submitted to his group.
Names and times change, but not the goals of socialists and communists.
