Come Heller high water… the ‘Truth is what I believe it is’ edition

December 6, 2020 by Andrew Heller 30 Comments

Come Heller high water …

  • So, do you believe? Not in Santa Claus. I mean do you believe that dead people elected Biden? Do you believe that the Democrats paid Dominion, the election machine company, to change Trump votes to Biden? Do you believe election workers all across the country – many of them your grandparents – were bribed by the Dems to overlook mismatching signatures, discard ballots and bar Republican poll watchers? Do you believe the U.S. military seized election servers in Germany that were counting U.S. election votes? Do you believe North Korea boated in votes for Biden through a harbor in Maine? Do you believe that Hugo Chavez, the former Venezuelan president who has been dead for the past seven years, created voting machine software before he died that would someday invert the vote totals of a future American election? (Almost sounds unlikely, right?) Do you believe China and Cuba funded the Democrats? And do you believe that the Democratic Party – an organization of geniuses who can barely tie their shoes and thought Hillary was a brilliant choice (“Everyone loves her!”) – pulled off the greatest election fraud in history and did it so well there’s not one shred of evidence? If that’s you, please come sit next to me if we should ever be at the same cocktail party. I love to talk to crazy people. They are far more interesting than the sane.
  • I bring this up because I know many, many Republicans who do, in fact, believe all of the above and more. Which is weird. These are people who work jobs, pay taxes, raise kids, serve their country and contribute to the community. Meaning they are grown-ups with grown-up responsibilities, belief systems and fully functioning consciences. So what explains this mass, intentional suspension of all that? Merely wanting to win? Hatred for “liberal” ideals? The dumbification of America owing to the decline of newspapers and the rise of social media? Certainly, those are all factors. But there’s something else at work in America and I’ll be damned if I know what it is. I’d love to hear some theories that don’t involve dead Venezuelan dictators. In the meantime, this L.A. Times story has some theories, if you’re interested.
  • Democrats, please don’t buy (but of course you will) the utter bull plop that Republican voters in Georgia will stay away from the polls next month to protest the election being “stolen” (losing, stolen … same thing) from Trump. That makes no sense. If anything, they’ll turn out in great numbers. This will come down to two factors – money and disgust. Whichever side has more wins.
  • I would love to make fun of Rudy Giuliani – for farting during his testimony in Michigan, for appearing on Trump’s behalf at a landscape company, for the hair dye dripping down his face at a press conference – but the dude is clearly off his meds. Or he needs them. Trump is guilty of elder abuse for hauling him out.
  • Yes, it took the lovely yet formidable Marcia and me this long to realize that “Saturday Night Live” is a much better show if you DVR it and skip over the commercials and the unfunny parts, which means 80 percent of the skits and the opening monologue. We can watch the whole thing in 20 minutes. Love it.
  • Things beside loved ones and friends that I miss the most during the pandemic: Restaurants, bars, movies, playing basketball, the office (sometimes) and the record store (I like LPs – for the young, those are black discs that play music if you drop a needle on them.) Things I don’t miss: waiting for the check, standing in line, fast food joints, going to the mall. Things I’ve had enough of being at home: being in the house, never leaving the house, working for a living in the house, and realizing how many updates I should make to the house but don’t feel like because, duh, I’m always IN the house.
  • Retailers have killed Black Friday, as you knew they would. Black Friday is now a month long. Doesn’t that just mean the stuff that’s deeply discounted that we used to get excited about was really just overpriced to begin with?
  • Dear Detroit Lions fans: I realize you probably know this in your heart of hearts but a new head coach won’t change anything. Nor will a new GM. Nor will new ownership. Your team, I’m afraid, has been assigned the Charlie Brown role in kicking a football, and the fates are Lucy, constantly yanking away the ball. May you find peace with that. (Besides, you deserve what you get. You fired the best head coach you’ve ever had in Jim Caldwell. He was 36-28 with two playoff appearances and three seasons with nine or more wins. You do stuff like that, you get what you get.)
  • “Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain’t goin’ away.” – Elvis Presley.

Dear Andrew, certainly another “masterpiece” you seem so easily to create!
Why, you ask our opinion, is this happening? (The belief in election fraud etc.)
Americans have been lambasted with rhetoric that blasts the Democrats for being well….Democrats. There has been an untold amount of bashing Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, or, anybody who doesn’t agree with the likes of Rush Windbag & Snot Nose Hannity etc. Much of this negative (IMO) talk I believe, is starting to have a very negative effect on much of America, not to mention how much this rhetoric divides Americans!! One cannot scan the radio and not find several talk show people being as critical as possible toward the Democratic party. I perceive this to be nothing but right wing propaganda. The overall effect I believe, is starting to do very serious damage to our nation. and, our democracy!!

If the consequences of Trumps presidency weren’t so damaging to this country and our relations with the world, I might be able to laugh about it but they were nothing short of evil. It’s going to take far longer than 4 years to repair the damage he has done. Why all his lies are believed by anyone escapes me. He is/was the worst thing to happen to America in my lifetime.

    So do you believe?
I find it hard to believe that people are so easily misled.
I find it unbelievable that over 74 million fellow citizens voted for trump.
They drank too much of the kool aid and got caught up in the lies.
They were not thinking clearly, they must be off in a different world of reality.
There are many citizens who have fallen victim to trump and embraced his cult mentality.
There are many citizens who would never vote for a democrat no matter how qualified they were. These same citizens will always vote for a republican no matter how inept the republican candidate is.

I always enjoy your column even when I disagree (that’s rare anyway). I’ve been DVRing SNL for awhile. It is nice to skip past commercials, bad skits and music artist I don’t like. Glad The Formidable Marcia got you squared away.

Trumpism’s rise has been a slow match that is the culmination of Newt Gingrich and his Contract On America, the rise of conservative media (Fox News is the original fake news), 9/11 which stoked fear amongst the population, and what I call fast food society. By that I mean we collectively have less patience. We want everything NOW and our gizmo’s and devices just exacerbate the immediacy of everything. What used to be kept quiet like racism’s did other biases is now open. Sad.

When I try to understand the Trump phenomenon I think of Jim Jones and the people’s temple. Weak minded people can be talked into anything. The scary part is 74 million people were talked into drinking that kool aid. Scary for sure.

The detail that kills me in that a big majority of American white people voted for Trump! Holy snots! I myself am an American white person, and I did not vote for Trump. Will I get profiled as a Trump supporter? Yikes. Does this prove that I actually am not truly “white?” Good.

AP December 7, 2020 Rudolph Giuliani and Donald Trump and many prominent Michigan Republicans have denounced the Detroit Lions’ win yesterday as a , “massive fraud.” They claim at least 14 of the Lions’ 34 points were invalid. They assert that dead people scored some of those points, and that the referees, the National Football League, and the Fox Sports announcers colluded in a deep state conspiracy to defraud the Chicago Bears of a legitimate, deserved, patriotic victory.

Two things: 1-Great idea for SNL. Tommy B used the term music artist. I think that could be considered an oxymoron now. Very little music that’s created these days qualifies as musical or artistic. about 9 of the 10 “artists” I see on SNL, I’ve never heard of, or never hear from again. kudos to SNL for giving them a shot, but…. 2-is it just me, or does it seem like 90% of Trump’s supporters are people he couldn’t care less about? Hmm….

Texas’s Attorney General, Ken Paxton, has filed suit in no less than the US Supreme Court asserting that the election results certified by the elected Governors of Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Wisconsin should be summarily declared invalid by the US government because the way each state’s elected legislatures chose to run their elections in their individual states affected the rights of the voters of the state of Texas.

Quick review for our “Original Intent” conservatives.

Remember how you shamelessly ignored how the President’s China tariffs made a mockery of Congress’ sole and exclusive right to tax, as clearly specified in article I of the Constitution?

Well congratulations, you’re now ignoring a national, historic, and unprecedented threat to the very concept of Federalism, colloquially referred to as State’s Rights by people in the intellectual cheap seats.

Remember that? It used to be a very important concept to people that identified as Conservative.

Any response? Any chubby middle aged white guys rushing to dress up in three cornered hats, Lipton tea bags and costume store vests? Hey, how about a few pasty paramilitary wannabee millennials with their paintball pads and indoor range tested “combat weapons”? Can we get a few of those patriots to show up in force like they did for other dire threats to the republic, like tax incentives for private health insurance plans…?

    No?

    Hmph.

I thought not. Sophomoric frauds, the lot of you.

    Be ashamed.

Great column! And I, like you, cannot believe the number of people that voted for Trump. I am thrilled that the younger generation got out to vote. 90% of them voted for Biden though they would have preferred Bernie. They sure did not want Trump, after the 2016 election, I think they realized they could of made a difference and we would not be where we are today. My son said everybody thought Hillary would win so a lot of people he knew did not vote even though he did.

I have to hand it to the Supreme Court for making the right decision today.

In many horror movies, near the ends, Good Guys finally seem to kill the evil Monster Villains, and we all relax and applaud. BUT, then the Bad Guys rise up and seek to kill again. You know that movie ending.

Well… Do not relax. Trump is not finished yet! He is coming back. Yikes! We will need to stay on our guard.

Hopefully all we hear from trump after January 20 is in the various court rooms across the country as he responds to the avalanche of charges brought against him and the trump organization.
The SDNY has been patiently waiting, several women have been patiently waiting, and it would not surprise me that he ends up in the clink.

“In the clink,” is a great old expression! From the days when the jail doors only clinked. “In the slammer,” is the same idea, but more recent. Now jail doors are louder. Maybe we will start a new expression: “In the Trump.”

This whole Trump end game is developing. Today, he pardoned a number of criminals, ranging from crooked congressmen to perjurers to machine-gun murderers. So far the people Trump has pardoned actually have been convicted of crimes.

Stay tuned. Will he start pardoning other people, pre-emptively, just in case? Including himself? Stay tuned.

The US Space Force possibly might outlast the Time of Trump the Terrible. If so, the Space Force will need a theme song. Like, “Anchors Aweigh,” “The Caissons Go Rolling Along,” “The Halls of Montezuma,” and “The Wild Blue Yonder.” Famous theme songs of our other armed forces.

I suggest, “I Wish I Were a Spaceman,” the theme song from the great old TV show Fireball XL-5:

Or was it just a musing by der trump?
Will the Biden administration give it any credence or funding?
What will happen to this outlandish idea once #45 departs the Oval Office?

This is not a post. It is an idea for a good post:

“The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.” You could put a photo of Dr. Anthony Fauci, maybe with Dr. Deborah Birx, and label it, “The Good.” Then get a photo of Trump with his pal Putin, and label it, “The Bad.” and next, find a photo of Senator Mitch McConnell, maybe with his pal Sen. Ted Cruz, and label that, “The Ugly.”

Put the three photos next to each other, with their labels, and play the theme from the famous movie as a soundtrack. I do not know how to do this. But, I am sure some of you know how.

Will you never post again here, outside of FaceBook? Maybe, if you do not want to post here anymore, you might make it possible for non-FaceBook people at least to read your FaceBook posts, without creating FaceBook accounts for themselves.

I know this is possible. My old congressman Justin Amash did it. Even if we cannot respond on FaceBook, we could read what you write, and then maybe respond here, outside of FaceBook. If you will not do it, goodbye, good luck; thanks for years of fun.

In regard to all the bat-s— crazy theories flying around, (and getting traction) I believe much of blame may be squarely placed on “right-wing hate radio”. The rhetoric I have heard from the likes of Rush Windbag,(“Liberalism is cultural rot”) Snot-Nose Hannity, (“Antifa caused the riot at the capitol”) Michael Gallagher, (“Democrats are evil scum-bags”) it goes on & on & on & on. This type of talk does very much to divide Americans and, is very dangerous to our democracy. These folks spew very much misinformation. I believe in absolute “free speech & press” however, one must not be allowed to yell fire…in a crowded theatre when there is in fact…..no fire.
