Cartoonist John Auchter joins AndrewHeller.com

So I called up John Auchter – former MLive editorial cartoonist – and said “Hey, John, wanna post cartoons on my site?” To my surprise and delight, he said yes. Look for an example of his insightful work every Friday here at AndrewHeller.com. Find the rest of his work 24/7 at  auchtoon.com.

One note: John often ads commentary to his pieces, which I love. Here’s the blurb that goes with today’s toon, along with his bio:

Yes, yes. I know Ben Carson dropped out and won’t be one of the participants in the Michigan Republican Presidential primary. I was literally inking his face when I found out. But you know what? I decided to keep him in the cartoon. First, as a hat tip to his Michigan roots. But mostly for enduring the Republican debate sideshows. Dr. Carson deserves to be voted against as much as any of the other candidates.

Auchter Bio: John knows all about Michigan. He moved to Flint as a 9-year old and was not happy about it. He wanted to stay in South Carolina, but his family insisted on gainful employment despite his protests. Showing early signs of his contrarian nature, he became an Ohio State fan for several years. He won a World’s Finest Chocolate Bar off his father betting on one of the classic Wolverine/Buckeye football games. It was probably the only fundraising item he ever “sold” for Holy Redeemer School. Later, when he found out what an a-hole Woody Hays was, he gave up on the whole Ohio State thing. Today, John is a Michigan/MSU agnostic. He acknowledges their existence, but as a Michigan Tech grad, he worships neither of them. John also draws cartoons. Lots and lots of them. You can find them at his website, auchtoon.com. Along with a much better bio.

So glad John will be posting weekly here. As his older brother I was concerned he might turn to decoupage or macramé after being dumped upon be Mlive. Slippery slope…

Some might consider appearing on this site to be a fate worse than macrame. But I’m glad he’s here.
