Auchtoon Time: The amazing convenient memory of Jeff Sessions

November 20, 2017 by John Auchter 15 Comments

Toon & Text by John Auchter

Remember nine years ago, when the auto industry was teetering on the brink of disaster? The housing bubble had burst, credit evaporated, and nobody was buying cars. Years of poor decision-making made the American automakers particularly vulnerable, so their execs headed to Washington to seek a bailout.

Part of that process was to appear before congressional panels so representatives and senators could ask appropriate questions like: “Why should we trust you?”

Our current attorney general, Jeff Sessions, was a senator from Alabama at that time, and he was among those who grilled the execs. I remember Sessions being particularly aggressive. I didn’t feel bad for the execs (after all, they were responsible).

But Sessions was so … vengeful — as if he had bought a Cadillac Cimarron back in the day and was still bitter about it. He seemed not to care that without a bailout the entire American auto industry would very likely collapse (and a good chunk of our manufacturing capabilities with it).

Cut to this week: Sessions appeared again before a congressional panel as attorney general and was exactly the sort of hostile testifier he would have eviscerated when he was the senator asking the questions. Not remembering, mis-remembering, truthful remembering but not actually how it happened. Which is it, Jeff?

At best, it’s just hypocritical behavior on Sessions’ part. At worst, he’s being a bully — abusing power when he has the opportunity and hiding behind it when he feels threatened.

No, wait, I can think of one thing worse: He’s the dang attorney general of the United States! If there is one position that Americans need as an honest advocate, it’s attorney general. And Sessions is acting with all the integrity of a 1978 Dodge Aspen.

John Auchter draws cartoons. Lots and lots of them. You can find them at his incredibly popular website auchtoon.com. You can also find his stuff on Michigan Public Radio’s website under Opinion.

Mr. Sessions days are numbered, along with the days of trump and his minions.
They all reek of suspicion and come off as self serving fibbers.

His insincerity was so evident. I hope his and trump’s days will soon be behind us. I’m reaching my limit of their lies and buffoonery.

You’ve nailed it, John! Absolutely nailed it. I look forward to the day when it’s no longer necessary to question the man as he’s no longer in a position of power. May it come soon.

For the top police officer in the nation, he sure can’t seem to recall much. He is either lying, or in the wrong job. My money is on both.
He fits right in with the rest of the trump administration. In fact those qualities appear to be a requirement.
Can anyone name ONE person trump appointed to his administration who hasn’t been caught lying yet? Yeah Yeah.. I know …”What about Hillary”

No, It is not just hilliary that did not tell the truth. It was also obama: If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Along with a bunch of other non-truths. There is one promise that obamma kept was his campaign promise in 2008 that under his energy plans, energy costs would necessarily go up.
Eric Holder in “fast and furious”, he could not tell the truth why such an operation was undertaken in the first place. Hilliary and the Bengazhi fiasco 1 ambassador and 3 others died while as SOS the reason for the attack was blamed on some obscure video. There is a lot more of democratic not telling the truth.
But, then again democrats followers or lemmings do not want to hear the truth.
Am I happy with the way Sessions is doing his job? NO!! Could President Trump have picked a better person than Sessions, YES!!
The difference between a democrat and a republican is that if democrats rant and rave against the President Trump, republicans just shrug our shoulders and carry on with life.
If any republican says something negative, no matter how true it is, the democrat mob machine kicks into high gear and they start rioting and destroying property.

You would be the one to know all about ranting and raving, so I won’t argue with you on that one.

I’m so tired of Trump seeking adoration for what he has done and hasn’t done. Everything positive he takes credit for and anything negative is someone else’s fault. I heard that a third arm is growing from his back so it’s easier to pat himself.

Gee, what is one of the differences between obama and President trump? obama was given a nobel peace prize for nothing, obama had just been elected to the office and did not have any time to do anything to earn the award obama did not earn the prize. He was given the award because he had been elected to the office of the president. Now if President Trump was to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, I would want to know what did he do to earn such an award. If there was nothing that could be proved that he had earned the award, then he should decline the prize.
Nobel would be considered a liberal today. Do you know how he earned the money to put into a foundation to award people for doing something to improve the lives of people?
He invented dynamite. He created dynamite to stop wars. He wanted a weapon so vile, nasty and destructive, that the leaders of nations would not want to wage war any more. He was a typical liberal, by thinking that if you create a destructive enough weapon mankind would put their weapons of war away and live in peace.
As far as gas being higher this year than it was over the past couple years. It is not President Trump’s fault.
The oil industry story is that the hurricanes that we had in the past 6 months or so, did a lot of damage to the refineries in Louisiana and Texas and they claim that they cannot keep up with the demand for gas. The oil companies always trot out this type of story whenever the gas prices go up.

No Fred I am not jealous of obama’s peace prize. The “man” did not do anything to earn such an award except to be elected to the office of the President.
Just name one thing that he did to earn the Nobel peace prize. You cannot name any event.
President Trump has not done anything to earn a chance to earn the peace prize. Even if President Trump did do something worthy to earn the Nobel Peace prize, he would not be selected to get it. The Nobel peace prize organization is basically ran by a bunch of liberal leaning personnel.
President Trump did help get those 3 thugs arrested in China for shoplifting. They thanked President Trump for helping avoid a long time prison sentence in China.
Now the father of one of them ,Ball sr, is upset that President Trump did not give them a free ride home on Air Force One. He wanted President Trump to cancel the rest of his Asian tour and give those 3 lawbreakers a hero’s welcome home.

Let us see today’s stories that the liberals will spin about today.
President trump has endorsed Judge Moore. That should really send liberals into a tizzy.
President Trump has not said that he would go to Alabama and campaign for Moore.
I see the “esteemed” rep john conyers is now being exposed for also being a pervert.
A number of women are starting top come forth about his lecherous behavior.
al franken is still in the spotlight with the photo proof that he sexually assaulted a sleeping
member of the armed forces. The picture was taken while they were on a military aircraft returning
to the United States. No state laws apply to that situation, however, there are military rules/laws
that do apply. He can still be charged under Federal law for 4th degree sexual conduct.
If all those democrats, along with the republicans are screaming that Judge Moore should not run need to look into their past history.
The Congressional slush/hush fund (our taxpayer money) set up by CONgress to pay off those women who were sexually harassed by members of CONgress (it involves members of both parties) needs to be repaid by the CONgress members who used the fund to pay off those women. The women should not be required to pay the money back, but knowing CONgress they will try to get the money back from them, the CONgress men need to pay it back put of their own pockets.
Both conyors and franken should resign. If they do not want Judge Moore to run for office because of 40 year old allegations, then franken and conyers should resign with the amount of evidence against them.

Some how making a very inappropriate joke and assaulting underage girls are the same thing in your book.
When you support people like trump and moore, you make it clear that honesty, truth and decency are not things you value. That is why you like these people, because they have the same backwards views and lack moral standards as you do.
