Auchtoon time: Don’t worry, Ford workers, Trump will provide

May 22, 2017 by John Auchter 21 Comments

Toon & text by John Auchter

My inner dialogue for this week’s cartoon —

Rational Me (RE): Let’s please do something without Donald Trump in it. There’s just so much going on with him right now, our cartoon might just get lost in the news swirl.

Emotional Me (EM): Absolutely. I’m on overload with that <redacted> and besides drawing him kinda make us queasy.

RM: Right. So what’s been going on in Michigan this week?

EM: THE ROADS! FIX THE ROADS! I HATE DRIVING ON OUR BROKEN, LOUSY, POTHOLE-RIDDLED ROADS!!!

RM: That’s all you ever want to talk about. How about cars, though? It looks like vehicle sales are leveling off in North America. The automakers are looking to cut back.

EM: Which means some dedicated Michiganders are going to lose their jobs to protect profit margins and stock prices.

RM: Well, yeah, but the companies need to protect themselves. Competition is fierce. Pruning some workers now might just just save more jobs later.

EM: Sure, sure. Absolutely. At least there will be plenty of good paying jobs with incredible benefits once the coal mines open.

RM: Um… there aren’t any coal mines in Michigan. There isn’t even any coal.

EM: Exactly.

RM: Oh, I see where you’re going with this. Not bad. But I thought we agreed to avoid Trump this week.

EM: Yeah… you’re right. Let’s check the news and see what else we got.

RM: Right. Okay, this just popped up: “No politician in history — and I say this with great surety — has been treated worse or more unfairly.” Guess who?

EM: Are you kidding me? That’s what he has to say to future leaders at a commencement address?!

RM: I mean, I understand that he talks in hyperbole, but I think he honestly means it! Does he have no real understanding of history? Geez louise, how thin-skinned can you get?!

EM: So, what do you want to draw?

RM: Oh, it’s on.

EM: Yep, let’s do this.

John Auchter draws cartoons. Lots and lots of them. You can find them at his incredibly popular website auchtoon.com. You can also find his stuff on Michigan Public Radio’s website under Opinion.

Must not be your job on the cutting block. More of that “if it doesn’t affect me, then all is well” attitude I hear from my relatives all the time.

Trump is going to save jobs? I thought he was too busy cutting health care for the low income.

BOOM! Liberal heads exploding all over yet! Will they ever see or say something positive about President. Trump? There is a lot of good going on.

Ernie, Please name one good thing. I assume you do not consider three big investigations of Mr. Trump and his pals to be good things. Do you believe Mr. Trump’s pal General Flynn taking the Fifth Amendment to avoid self-incrimination is a good thing?

Hey! I just remembered that Michigan used to have several big salt mines! Mr. Trump can put the laid-off Ford managers to work in the salt mines, just as soon as he opens them back up. He is going to need to defeat all the Liberal Salt-Mine Haters, but I am sure he can do it. Make Salt-Mining Great Again!

Trump is such an egotist he takes credit for everything positive happening but it’s never his fault when negative events happen like this Ford layoff. As to who was treated worse: How about Nelson Mandella?

Oh Ernie…you just outed yourself to be nothing more than another troll with nothing of context to add to the discussion. Come on, I know you must have an original and intelligent thought somewhere in that old rock rolling around in your head. Lets hear it.

Working Dad, I see that Fred is up to his usual smearing habit.
For you Fred a snowflake is used to describe someone on the liberal, democratic, progressive left that cannot stand the idea of someone having a different point of view. Like those snowflakes that walked out on V. P. Pence at Notre Dame because he did not say the things that they wanted to hear.
Fred, you are a liberal cyber bully. You are upset that your liberal leaning, cash chasing, who used and unsecure server in my closet instead of my government issued server, did not pay her female interns as much as she paid her male interns along with some other items in her closet, did not win the election.
If a conservative speaker is scheduled to speak at a snowflake college/university the snowflakes have a hissy fit and start making threats against the conservative speaker. Politically correct speech is all about suppressing the 1st amendment.

You righties are so butt hurt by our negative opinions of trump. Therefore you are a soft, oversensitive snowflake, and that is the context in which you would use it against a liberal. I am just pointing our your hypocrisy. I am sorry you missed that. I will be sure to spell it out for you in the future.
Again, If you think I am bully does that mean I will have your vote if I ever run for President? I mean after all you voted for a bully, or maybe you just weren’t paying attention, I guess that is very possible. Lets see if you respond to this question this time. I have my doubts, but I hope you prove me wrong.
If you are so offended about Hillary using an unsecured server, potentially exposing our national secrets, I trust you are equally offended about trump willfully blurting out our code word protected secrets to Russia without a second thought, but then again I am sure you are cool with it, as trump could take a dump on the oval office floor and you would defend that.
You sure have a problem with our freedom of speech as you get so deeply offended when people exercise their right to peacefully protest. Please tell us again how you love the U.S. Constitution.
Prove to me you are not just another conservative coward and respond.

Sorry, Jim III, but I don’t believe any conservative has trademarked the word “snowflake” so yeah, we can throw it right back at ya, because y’all have such a tendency to melt down when we criticize Trump.

You know what? Get over it.

I gotta say, I am on Mr. Auchter’s side here. This is a brilliant, incisive, fun, original cartoon. And, I am on Mr. Heller’s side, and Mr. Fred’s side. Workhorse Daddie, Ernie, and Jim-Bob the Third have not actually added any insight or any humor whatsoever, ever, as far as I remember.

You guys can keep on repeating your right-wing cliches and Phar-Phetched Phony Phacts ™, and you can continue being impolite, but that scores no points. Nor does it change reality. It certainly does not convince anybody of anything. You guys are so limp and silly, my liberal pit-bull would not even bother to bark at you.
