It’s more than a little pretentious to create a very wordy cartoon around a word I have a difficult time pronouncing, but obfuscate is the perfect fit here. It means to render obscure, unclear, or unintelligible, and it is a tactic used more and more at all levels of political discourse.
In the cases of Flint water and Detroit schools, it is our moral and fiscal responsibility to avoid letting side issues steal our attention away from the actual problem at hand: finding a long-term solution for real people suffering real harm. We need to stay focused!
And, yes, that IS state Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, R-West Olive. I’m pretty sure his middle name is Obfuscate.
John Auchter draws cartoons. Lots and lots of them. You can find them at his incredibly popular website auchtoon.com. You can also find his stuff on Michigan Public Radio’s website under Opinion.

Describes the whole Rebublican party perfectly!

One of my favorite words to use in relation to politicians. Good one!

Perfect choice for an example. I am embarrassed to admit the man is from my district. People here vote Republican regardless of the candidate. They even voted for a person who died, and it was too late to take his name off the ballot. This is DeVos territory. Need I say more?

Perfect!

I agree 100% and suburban Democrats obfuscate about the same issues Republicans do when it comes to the cities. I live in Flint, retire from UAW/GM Jan. 1, have no children. Many of the issues don’t affect me but they are still important.
Sure I want to keep my pension, health care, all of my benefit plus pay as little as possible in taxes but not at other’s expense. There is such a thing as quality of life, sure some people abuse government funds, people of all income levels cheat on their taxes too and that causes us hard working mostly honest folks to pay more in taxes.
Cathy says
Bingo! And inexcusable . You are right on ~ we need to stay focused.
