You’re not sick of teacher sick-outs, and neither am I. In fact, as I expressed in my weekly bits and pieces column, which appears every Wednesday, I think teachers are the most abused employee class in the country, and have been for decades, ever since the Republican right decided teacher unions are the source of all evil and teachers themselves are responsible for most of society’s ills. (Forget the fact that we pay them like crap and give them sow’s ears to turn into silk purses, noooo. Just pull out your magic fairy dust, teachers, and fix everything. And do it while we demean and criticize you.)
Thus, I obviously agree with the 86 percent in this week’s poll (out of 216 total votes) who said the teacher sick-outs this week in Detroit were justified.
That’s small comfort, I’m sure, to teachers. You can’t eat support after all.
But, hey, it’s something.
