Fatigue? Oh yeah, we got fatigue. Eighty percent of the 190 people taking this week’s Heller Poll said they tested positive for election fatigue – and it’s only April! God help us by the time November rolls around. We’ll be freakin’ basket cases.
What delighted me most about the poll results, however, was the 3 percent who agreed with the answer “What presidential election?” You people are my heroes, for you either have a wonderful dry sense of humor OR you’re sublimely and supremely checked out of what’s going on in society, in either case I salute you.
Sometimes the only sensible thing to do is to stick your head in the sand.
By the way, today’s image is called “Marines Call It That 2,000 Yard Stare,” by World War II artist and correspondent Tom Lea, and it’s one of the most famous paintings of WWII. About the Marine, Lea said: “He left the States 31 months ago. He was wounded in his first campaign. He has had tropical diseases. He half-sleeps at night and gouges Japs out of holes all day. Two-thirds of his company has been killed or wounded. He will return to attack this morning. How much can a human being endure?”
BTW, not making any comparisons here between the real hell of war and our piddly, annoying elections, so please no angry, MLive-like comments. (I don’t miss the trolls.) One, I’m a WWII buff and I’ve always loved this painting, which appeared in Life magazine. Two, c’mon, the look on this guy’s face – yeah, when Cruz and Trump and Fiorina (and sometimes even Hillary) get going, oh man, can I relate.
